3. Summary of the Tales of Bhola Grandpa

Bhola Grandpa was a kind person who could make us laugh without trying. He and his wife lived at the west end of our village. A big bokul tree stood near their hut, where a small group of monkeys lived, but they were not worried about them. One moonlit night, we were returning from a festival, and I was riding on the village watchman’s shoulders when suddenly Bhola Grandpa started crying loudly because he could not find his grandson. He had been holding the boy’s fingers tightly but did not notice when they slipped out. After some time, we saw that the boy had taken shelter under a cow, and he was safe. On a rainy afternoon, Bhola Grandpa told my father and his friends that he had seen pirates burying treasure in the sand dunes near the village. Excited, everyone searched for the treasure all night, but finally, he admitted it was only a dream during his afternoon nap. One evening, when he returned from the Sunderbans market, he saw a Royal Bengal tiger behind him. He quickly climbed a banyan tree, but the tiger roared and circled under the tree many times. At dawn, he safely returned home. At the age of ninety-five, Bhola Grandpa passed away, and his eighty-year-old wife sadly said, “The old man must have forgotten to breathe.”

A Night to Remember

We were returning home from an educational excursion with our school friends and teachers. The night was calm and beautiful as the bus moved along the quiet road. Suddenly, the tyres got punctured, and we had to stop. We all got off and waited for two hours in a lonely place while the driver fixed them. The darkness felt both peaceful and a little scary. At last, the tyres were repaired, and we started our journey again. Finally, we reached home safe and happy. That night’s mix of beauty and fear is something we will always remember.
