5 April is celebrated as National Maritime Day in India.
In November 2020, the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi renamed the Ministry of Shipping the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
13 major ports (12 Government-Owned and 1 Private owned).
More than 200 ports were minor.
